“His grief he will not forget; but it will not darken his heart, it will teach him wisdom.” – J.R.R. Tolkein, Lord of The Rings: Return of the King.
Who I am in the family:
I’m the adopted one. The English one. The Blonde one. I’m the one that has the pleasure of being the official Head Taster of Elevenses.
I’m Natalie Wright, I’m 22 and on paper, I’m a Digital Media Development student come Search Engine Strategist come professional eater. Off paper I’m lucky to have been welcomed into the powerhouse that is the Cardinal family through my dating of the brainbox behind the Episteme column right here on the Elevenses website (otherwise known as Jacqui Cardinal, baby bear and Jax). To give you the long and short of our relationship, we’ve known each other for 4 years, been together for around 2 of those and we’ve been living together in YEG since August 2013 and will be here until September 2014.
My lifestyle, my way forward and almost all decisions I make are driven by a will to overcome my long term anxiety and depression to attain a truer life experience. It is through diet, cognitive work, medication and most recently, testing, that I have yielded the best results in progression all of which I hope to share with you.
I will be your tastebuds here at Elevenses. I also hope to explore my experience with depression and the unbreakable link between cognitive issues and nutrition.
I’m sure there was a pretty important bloke some time in history that said something like “let thy medicine be thy food and thy food be thy medicine”, live by this and you cannot go wrong.
Enter the geek, center stage, pained expression on her face holding back the inevitable explosive monologue about digital marketing and start-ups.
Having recently fallen from an industry placement into my freelance career, my passion lies in all things SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). What better experience can a 20-something digital marketer have to run and maintain the online presence of such an inspirational and wholesome family cause? None.
In addition to being a kid in a candy store, my other reason as to “Why Elevenses?” lies in my adoration for the family. They have done, and continue to do, so much for me and this is my little way of giving back and saying thank you. From infancy to adulthood, I can’t wait to help Elevenses grow up to be a household name in the food, family and travel blogospheres.
What I want to bring to Elevenses:
Primarily I want to bring my digital marketing expertise to the table to help spread this family’s story and help to get these guys as far as I know they can get.
I also want to help readers find the support they may desperately be lacking when it comes to depression and generalised anxiety. I am by no means placing myself on a pedestal and claiming that I have some right or one-size-fits-all solution to such deep rooted cognitive issues. What I am doing is letting you guys in on my journey with the hopes that you’ll find a form of support that works for you during such difficult times.
What I want from Elevenses:
The experience and all associated feelings that come with being a part of a family finding their food way.
My dream Elevenses project:
Honestly? it’s Elevenses itself.
